π¨βπ³ Instructions
Wash, peel, and dice the sweet potato. Wash and dice the zucchini.
Place a steamer basket over boiling water in a saucepan. Add the sweet potato cubes first (they take longer to cook).
Steam the sweet potato for about 5 minutes, then add the diced zucchini to the steamer.
Continue to steam everything together for another 8 to 10 minutes, or until both vegetables are fork-tender.
Transfer everything to a bowl and mash until you reach the desired consistency. For a smoother mash, use a blender.
Stir in a teaspoon of breast milk, formula, or water if you need to lighten the texture.
Serve once cooled to a lukewarm, safe temperature.
β οΈ Common Mistakes
- β
Not steaming the sweet potato long enough; it should be very soft, almost falling apart, to ensure it is easy for a baby to digest.
- β
Leaving the zucchini skin on if you prefer a perfectly uniform texture (though leaving it on is perfectly fine for nutrition).
π Variations
Healthy Fat Boost: Drizzle with a few drops of extra-virgin olive oil just before serving to add healthy fats.

π§ Storage
- π¦

π‘ Chef Tips
The natural sweetness of the sweet potato usually makes this mash a big hit with babies who are just starting out.
For a more rustic "BLW" texture, you can mash with a fork; for a spoon-fed consistency, blending is perfect.
