β οΈ Common Mistakes
- β
Over-Muddling the Fruit: Don't grind the berries until they turn into complete mush. You want clean, rustic crushed pieces rather than a thick paste that will clog your straw.
π Variations
Berry Ginger Fizz: Replace the plain club soda with high-quality ginger beer for a fiery spice element that pairs perfectly with sweet blackberries.
Spiked Berry Collins: Transform this mocktail into a party cocktail by adding 1.5 oz (45 ml) of dry botanical gin.
π§ Storage
- π¦
This carbonated beverage should be enjoyed immediately after preparation. You can muddle the berries and syrup ahead of time and store the berry base in a jar for up to 2 days.
π‘ Chef Tips
Slap the Mint: Don't skip slapping the mint sprig! It breaks the cellular walls on the surface of the leaf, releasing immediate fresh essential oils that hit your nose beautifully with every sip.
Frozen Berry Hack: If fresh berries are out of season, thaw a handful of frozen mixed berries. They are incredibly soft and release an even richer juice when muddled!
