β οΈ Common Mistakes
- β
Using Stale Watermelon: Watermelon turns grainy and sour quickly once cut. Use fresh, crisp melon to avoid a flat, unappealing flavor profile.
- β
Over-blending: Blending the ice for too long turns it friction-warm, changing your thick, freezing slushy into a thin, lukewarm juice.
π Variations
Watermelon Strawberry Cooler: Pour the blended juice through a fine-mesh strainer to remove pulp, then top it off with 2 oz (60 ml) of sparkling club soda.
Adult Spiked Melon: Toss 1.5 oz (45 ml) of white rum, vodka, or tequila into the blender for a perfect poolside cocktail.
π§ Storage
- π¦
This drink separates very quickly due to the high water content of the melon. It should be consumed immediately after blending. If it separates, give it a quick stir.
π‘ Chef Tips
No Water Needed: Do not add water or juice to help it blend. Watermelon is over 90% water and will break down almost instantly, creating all the liquid necessary for the blender to work perfectly.
Freeze the Watermelon: For a smoother, less icy texture, freeze your watermelon cubes the night before and skip the ice cubes entirely!
