β οΈ Common Mistakes
- β
Bottled Lemon Juice: Using pasteurized, store-bought bottled lemon juice gives a chemical, bitter aftertaste. Freshly squeezed lemons are non-negotiable here!
- β
Adding Sugar Directly: Stirring granulated sugar directly into cold lemonade means the sugar won't dissolve, leaving a crunchy, un-sweetened mess at the bottom.
π Variations
Sparkling Strawberry Lemonade: Swap out the plain still water for sparkling club soda or mineral water for a bubbly twist.
Spike It Up: Add 1.5 oz (45 ml) of vodka or gin to transform this refreshing mocktail into a perfect patio cocktail.
π§ Storage
- π¦
You can mix the strawberry puree, lemon juice, and syrup ahead of time and store the lemonade base in a sealed pitcher in the fridge for up to 3 days. Always add ice and water right before serving.
π‘ Chef Tips
Simple Syrup Ratio: Make your own simple syrup by dissolving equal parts sugar and water over heat. Let it cool completely before using so it doesn't melt your ice.
Strain for Smoothness: If you dislike strawberry seeds, pass your strawberry puree through a fine-mesh strainer before adding it to the glass.
