👨🍳 Instructions
Flake the drained tuna into a bowl.
Mix in the softened light cream cheese, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, salt and pepper until combined.
Fold in the cucumber sticks and most of the red onion.
Lay the romaine leaves flat, overlapping the stems to create wide, sturdy wraps.
Spoon the tuna mixture along the center and roll up the leaves.
Secure with a toothpick and serve immediately, garnished with the remaining onion.
⚠️ Common Mistakes
- ✕
Overfilling the leaves, which makes them tear and leak.
- ✕
Using watery canned tuna without draining, thinning out the cream cheese.
- ✕
Building the wraps with damp lettuce, making them soggy.
🔄 Variations
Swap tuna for shredded chicken or smoked salmon.
Add sliced avocado or a pinch of smoked paprika for flavor.
Use collard green leaves instead of romaine for larger wraps.
🧊 Storage
- 📦
Best eaten fresh, right after rolling.
- 📦
Filled wraps soften in the fridge; store filling and leaves separately for up to 1 day.
💡 Chef Tips
Tip 1: Pat the romaine thoroughly dry so the filling stays creamy and the wraps hold.
Tip 2: Use the pale, sturdy inner leaves for the best wrap shape.
Tip 3: Chill the filled wraps for 5 minutes before serving so they set firmly.
