Well-Cooked Rolled Oats Porridge with Almond Milk & Pear Compote (Beta-glucans for heart health)
By the QuiteRecipes team (Jamy & Kaïna) | Food Service Professional, Early Childhood Expert & Parents
A slow-cooked rolled oats porridge made creamy with almond milk, topped with melting pear compote — beta-glucan fiber for senior hearts.
Oats are one of the few foods that genuinely earn the word heart-friendly, thanks to their beta-glucan fiber, and cooking them slowly into a creamy porridge makes them wonderfully gentle on the stomach. Here they simmer in almond milk and meet a melting pear compote that brings soft natural sweetness. It's a warm, easy morning bowl with real cardiology on its side.

👨🍳 Instructions
Simmer the pear with 3 tablespoons of the almond milk, the lemon juice, and cinnamon in a small pan for 6–8 minutes, until the pear is melting-soft. Mash it lightly and keep warm.
Meanwhile, put the oats and the remaining almond milk with a splash of water in a separate saucepan.
Cook over medium-low heat, stirring often, for 8–10 minutes until the oats are fully tender and creamy, adding a little more milk if they catch on the bottom.
Stir in the vanilla, then spoon the porridge into two warm bowls.
Top each bowl with the warm pear compote and a whisper of honey, if you like.
⚠️ Common Mistakes
- ✕
Boiling the oats hard, which burns the bottom and leaves the center raw.
- ✕
Rushing the porridge; well-cooked oats are the entire point for easy digestion.
- ✕
Adding too little liquid, leaving a gummy rather than creamy bowl.
🔄 Variations
Swap the pear for a soft stewed apple or mashed ripe banana.
Use oat or soy milk instead of almond if you prefer.
Fold in a spoonful of smooth peanut or almond butter for extra protein.
🧊 Storage
- 📦
Keeps 2 days refrigerated; loosen with a splash of milk and reheat gently.
- 📦
The pear compote keeps 4 days on its own in the fridge.
💡 Chef Tips
Tip 1: Stir the oats low and slow; patience gives a creamier bowl than any shortcut.
Tip 2: Add the liquid in two stages so the oats cook without clumping.
Tip 3: Peel the pear for the compote so no skin gets in the way of smooth eating.
Tip 4: The beta-glucan lives in the cooking liquid — don't strain or rinse anything away.
