⚠️ Common Mistakes
- ✕
Excessive Moisture: If the onion mixture releases too much water before you add the flour, drain the liquid to ensure your batter doesn't become too runny.
- ✕
Cold Oil: Dropping the batter into oil that is not hot enough will result in oily, soggy fritters rather than crispy ones.
🔄 Variations
Spicy Kick: Add a small amount of minced Caribbean chili pepper if you prefer a higher level of heat.
Texture Boost: Mix in a spoonful of cornmeal for an even crunchier crust.
🧊 Storage
- 📦
Serve immediately for the best texture. If leftovers exist, store in an airtight container and reheat in the oven or air fryer to restore crispiness.
💡 Chef Tips
Texture: Finely chopping the onions is key to ensuring they cook through evenly and create a uniform, crispy fritter.
Batter Consistency: Start with a small amount of water and add slowly; the batter should be thick enough to hold together in the oil without spreading too thin.
