π¨βπ³ Instructions
Combine the oats, milk and salt in a saucepan and simmer over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, stirring, until creamy.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the whey protein until fully dissolved.
Pour the porridge into a bowl.
Top with the berries, banana slices and chopped nuts, then finish with cinnamon and serve warm.
β οΈ Common Mistakes
- β
Adding the whey while the oats are boiling, which clumps and curdles the protein.
- β
Pouring the powder straight onto dry oats, creating sticky pockets.
- β
Cooking it too long, turning a creamy porridge into a stiff paste.
π Variations
Use chocolate whey and top with a spoon of peanut butter.
Swap the berries for diced apple or pear.
Make it with soy milk and a plant protein for a vegan version.
π§ Storage
- π¦
Best eaten fresh; the oats thicken as they stand.
- π¦
Leftovers keep for 24 hours in the fridge; reheat with a splash of milk.
π‘ Chef Tips
Tip 1: Always stir the whey in off the heat β boiling it can make the protein curdle.
Tip 2: Whisk the whey with a splash of cold milk first for a lump-free finish.
Tip 3: Thin with a splash of milk if the porridge gets too thick after adding the protein.
