Green Plantain Accras (Plantain Fritters)
By the QuiteRecipes team (Jamy & KaΓ―na) | Food Service Professional, Early Childhood Expert & Parents
Learn to make authentic, crispy vegan Green Plantain Accras. A savory Caribbean appetizer packed with fresh peppers, onions, and aromatic spices.
Green plantains, grated and fried into golden fritters, are Caribbean comfort in its simplest form. We keep them vegan and let the plantain stay the star, crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, with a little heat waiting in the batter. One batch disappears embarrassingly fast.

β οΈ Common Mistakes
- β
Overcrowding: Frying too many accras at once will drop the oil temperature, leading to greasy fritters rather than crispy ones.
- β
Under-seasoning: Green plantains have a very neutral flavor, so ensure the salt and aromatics are well-integrated to achieve the best taste.
π Variations
Texture: Add a pinch of baking powder if you prefer a slightly airier, lighter fritter.
Herb Blend: Incorporate finely chopped fresh parsley or cilantro to the batter for extra freshness.
π§ Storage
- π¦
For optimal taste and crunch, serve immediately. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheated in an oven or air fryer.
π‘ Chef Tips
Grating: Using a fine grater for the green plantains is essential to ensure the accras stay together and have a smooth, uniform interior.
Handling Chili: The Caribbean chili is very spicy; adjust the amount carefully based on your tolerance for heat.
