Chocolate Caramel Poke Cake
By the QuiteRecipes team (Jamy & KaΓ―na) | Food Service Professional, Early Childhood Expert & Parents
An incredibly moist chocolate cake, poked with holes to let a creamy caramel sauce flow through, all covered with a buttercream frosting.
The poke cake trick is wonderfully simple: bake a chocolate cake, poke it full of holes while warm, and pour caramel down into every one. What you get is absurdly moist, dangerously easy to eat, and impossible to stop at one slice.

- π« Ingredients required by the mix (eggs, oil, water)

π¨βπ³ Instructions
Prepare and bake the chocolate cake according to the recipe or package instructions in a rectangular pan.
Once the cake is out of the oven and still hot, use the handle of a wooden spoon to poke uniform holes all over the surface.
Slowly pour the sweetened condensed milk (or caramel sauce) over the cake so it seeps into each hole.
Let the cake cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
Once well chilled, cover the top with a generous layer of whipped cream or a light buttercream.
Garnish with chocolate shavings or an extra drizzle of caramel before serving.

β οΈ Common Mistakes
- β
Holes too close: If you make too many holes too close together, the cake may crumble when serving.
- β
Warm frosting: Never apply cream on a still-warm cake; it will melt instantly.
π Variations
"Turtle" Version: Add chopped toasted pecans on top for extra crunch.
Coffee intensity: Replace the water in the cake mix with brewed coffee to enhance the chocolate flavor.
π§ Storage
- π¦
This dessert must be stored in the refrigerator. It keeps perfectly for 3 to 4 days.
π‘ Chef Tips
Caramel temperature: If using homemade caramel, make sure it is not boiling hot when pouring, but fluid enough to penetrate the holes.
Resting time: The longer the cake rests in the fridge, the more infused and moist it will be.
