π¨βπ³ Instructions
**Prep the Nopal:** If using fresh nopal, ensure all spines are completely removed. If you are worried about the "slime" (mucilage) of the cactus, you can blanch it briefly or use jarred/canned nopal.
**Combine:** Add the kale, pineapple, nopal, pitted dates, chia seeds, and your chosen liquid (coconut water or orange juice) into a high-speed blender.
**Blend:** Blend on high speed for at least 60 seconds. You want to ensure the fibrous kale and nopal are broken down into a completely smooth, drinkable consistency.
**Adjust:** If the consistency is too thick, add a splash more coconut water.
**Serve:** Pour into a glass and enjoy immediately.

β οΈ Common Mistakes
- β
Not Washing Nopal: Ensure your nopal is thoroughly cleaned. Even small, missed spines will affect the texture and could be painful to consume.
- β
Blending Time: Because both kale and nopal are fibrous, do not rush the blending process. A longer blend time is the key to a pleasant, non-gritty texture.
π Variations
Protein Power: Add a tablespoon of hemp hearts for an extra boost of healthy fats and protein.
Anti-Inflammatory: Add a small piece of fresh ginger to aid digestion and reduce inflammation.
π§ Storage
- π¦
As with all green smoothies, this is best consumed fresh to prevent the oxidation of the nutrients. If you must store it, keep it in an opaque, airtight container in the fridge for no more than 6 hours.
π‘ Chef Tips
Calcium Absorption: If you choose orange juice as your liquid, you are actually helping your body! The Vitamin C in the juice significantly enhances the absorption of the calcium found in the kale and nopal.
Date Prep: If your dates are dry/hard, soak them in a little warm water for 5 minutes before blending to ensure they break down smoothly.
