👨🍳 Instructions
In a jar or small bowl, combine the oats, chia seeds, and cinnamon.
Pour in the almond milk, add the vanilla, and stir well.
Mash half the berries with a fork and stir them in; leave the rest whole for the top.
Close the jar and refrigerate overnight (at least 4 hours, ideally overnight).
In the morning, stir the oats, loosen with an extra splash of milk if needed, and top with the remaining berries and a spoonful of almond butter.
⚠️ Common Mistakes
- ✕
Using instant oats, which turn into a paste by morning.
- ✕
Adding too much liquid and ending with soup — 180ml is plenty for 50g of oats.
- ✕
Forgetting to stir in the first batch of berries, leaving the bottom half plain.
🔄 Variations
Grated apple + walnuts instead of berries + almonds for a fall version.
Stir in 1 tablespoon of Greek yogurt for extra protein and creaminess.
Top with 1 tablespoon of toasted seeds or crushed pecans for crunch.
🧊 Storage
- 📦
Keeps in an airtight jar in the fridge for up to 2 days.
- 📦
Oats will continue to soften; add a splash of milk before eating.
💡 Chef Tips
Tip 1: Rolled oats soak best. Instant oats turn mushy; steel-cut oats stay too hard without cooking.
Tip 2: Stir the jar again before eating — the chia settles at the bottom overnight.
Tip 3: Swap the almond butter for peanut butter when your pantry prefers it; both work the same.
Tip 4: Want it warm? Microwave the jar for 60–90 seconds before topping.
❓ FAQ
Can I make it the same morning? Yes, soak at least 4 hours; overnight is easiest.
Is it sweet enough? Yes — the berries carry the sweetness; add a teaspoon of maple syrup if you prefer more.
Is this low-glycemic? It's a fiber- and protein-rich, no-added-sugar breakfast that digests slowly; portion size still matters for your numbers.
